This sketch is captivating in how it captures the soul of perception through a single human eye. It’s drawn in charcoal, yet somehow makes this simple medium convey the complexity of consciousness itself.
Every delicate eyelash casts its own tiny shadow, and the iris spirals inward like a maze leading to the dark center of the pupil. I used soft edges and gentle transitions to suggest how our own awareness often fades at its edges into mystery. It’s interesting how an eye, which we usually think of as the thing doing the looking, becomes something to be looked at – and the more you look, the more details you notice.
There’s something almost hypnotic about how the eye seems to look back at you. I wanted to capture that moment when you realize you’re not just seeing, but being seen. The angled position and close-up view create an intimacy that makes you pause and think about what it really means to see and be seen. When we look into another’s eye, are we seeing them, or are we seeing ourselves being seen? Maybe that’s why eyes are called the windows to the soul – they’re not just organs of sight, but mirrors of awareness itself.
