In creating this portrait of Gregory Pototsky, I wanted to capture the unique spirit of someone who shapes not just materials, but ideas into being. The loose, almost ethereal quality of the pastel technique seems particularly fitting for someone who understands the transformation of solid matter into flowing form. His expression – that genuine, almost impish smile – suggests someone who has found deep joy in his creative work, while his flowing hair and beard give him the appearance of a modern-day sage or artistic philosopher.

The blues swirling in his clothing and the background create a sense of movement and depth that seems appropriate for someone who thinks in three dimensions. There’s something almost musical about the way the colors flow, perhaps reflecting how all arts – whether sculpture, painting, or music – spring from the same creative source.
